The phrase Skookum doll is now applied for any dolls representing indigenous tribes that are not created by tribal users. The authentic Skookum dolls have been Native American-themed dolls developed and produced by a white female (Mary Dwyer McAboy 1876-1961). They were being sold as memento products in the early 20th century and quickly mass-created. Whilst regarded as collectible, they are not genuine Native American dolls as they had been/are not made by tribal associates. An interesting simple fact is that in most circumstances, the eyes had been painted seeking to the ideal not often, hunting to the remaining.
